MAHARASHTRA BECOMES 1ST STATE TO BAN SALE OF LOOSE CIGARETTES, BEEDIS

Maharashtra government has banned the sale of unpackaged “loose” cigarettes and beedis, making it the first Indian state to so. The state’s public health department said such items are sold without a packet and do not have specific health warnings as mentioned on the packet. Maharashtra has the lowest smoking rate in the country, the Global Youth Tobacco Survey 2016 showed.
